Begun with a relatively slow pace, this quicklly accelerates and you are in the grip of true drama. From the first terrifying pains of the doctor, we are caught up in this race against time and a deadly enemy of a heart attack. This is a masterfully drawn race I found insightful and instructive Modern medicine wins again!.

I breathed a sigh of relief near the end, but what really rocked me was the conclusion this highly trained doctor drew about his experience: that love was the only thing that mattered in this world. To me it is a miracle that he knows then the true meaning of life without belaboring it. Crystal clear and shining like the beacon it is, this book has been a revelation. Love can be and often is the answer to any question about living we need to ask.

I also experienced seeing my body lying in the bed. It has changed my life also. There is life after death of the body, and the love and peace come because of Jesus Christ, my Savior and Lord. Check it out, your turn is coming!
It explains a lot after reading this book why you take the time to smile and make people around you feel special when for many doctors we are invisible, your experience has made you connect with people in a level that many other people with your responsibilities and wisdom simply can't. I was overwhelmed by happiness reading your book because I saw my son going into cardiac arrest right in front of my eyes and I keep wondering what he saw and he felt… it will be a long journey of questions unanswered but at the end I can say it had to be LOVE what made him stay here with us, and LOVE what he felt while he was gone, because at his short age, that's all he knows!
As a medical professional I appreciate the authors story from his perspective as the Physician /Patient and from his colleague's. Those he came back too, in order to fully appreciate and love and see as not only life saver's but as family. This is a true story that anyone can appreciate and learn from. Dr. Carson has shared a very real and highly emotional experience that changed his outlook on life and builds a case for the rest of us to do the same. His experience is both unique-a critical care physician experiencing an NDE-and shares commonalities with others that have experienced NDE's. Having had a near death experience myself, I was disappointed by the lack of medical explanation of what was happening and by the lack of what happened (other than floating) beyond the physical realm. This was little more than a doctor thanking those who saved his life. It lacked the richness of numerous other experiences.
Code Blue was a true story of a physician who survived a heart attack while on duty. And how the near death experience changed his life. The book is a good read and will open your eyes to what is important in life ---love. In the end, we all have to say goodbye; we don't know when but we all have to leave, and to have the opportunity to see the end, and to have another chance to live and love again was magnificent.  The book will help you recognize the signs of a heart attack and could save your life.
I am a nurse that works in ICU and in the Cardiac Cath Lab. I have been a participant in the care of a patient experiencing cardiac arrest and acute myocardial infarctions more times than I can count on both hands. Dr. Carson's description of how he experienced his heart attack and subsequent NDE moved me to the point of tears. It was refreshing and awe inspiring. Furthermore, it reflects the much needed perspective of spiritualism in healthcare that is all too often lacking in the attitudes of practitioners, whether M D., R.N., or any of the other professionals that participate in the care of patients. Finally, that Love is the most important thing for all to practice in life , the lesson that Dr Carson learned during his NDE, lends a sense of hope to all who have ears to hear and hearts to give to others.
