I'm so excited to have stumbled across this series. This is the first of (i believe) 12 books all set in the same world with different characters, and i can't wait to read the rest of them. I'm sad that this is the first I've heard of Ms. Verdenius, but on the other hand i'm so pleased to have an entire series to get through. really great example of the genre--lots of action, kick-ass heroine, sweet alpha hero, devious villains, and a well-paced storyline. It's not too heavy on sci-fi tech stuff, which i appreciate (a little goes a long way), and is more character driven. Since the characters are interesting, that's a great thing. Don't be fooled by the cover, it's not erotica, just good sci-fi action with a compelling romance woven in.
I'm a big fan now!

I have read the entire heart and soul series and I only wish there were more. This is a great start to a wonderful series.
I bought this because the story sounded good and it had a high goodreads rating. However, as soon as I came to the part where we find out the heroine is 16, I simply couldn't get over it. I read on for several more chapters, until I realized that yes, this 16 yo was the sexual/love interest of the hero. Now, I realize this is a fantasy universe where 16 may not be considered underage, but in the book, even characters keep talking abut her as if she is a child. SO.....in fact, the hero lusts after and eventually engages in a sexual relationship with a child (which I skipped ahead to see if that was going to be the case). I am sorry, but just because a 16 yo has been a fighter and seen lots of death, that doesn't mean she is mature.

I just requested a refund. Bummed out though since there are so many books in this series, and the plot descriptions sound great. I guess I will be continuing on in by search for a new PNR series.
I have read this book countless times. It never fails to draw me into the drama of the Reeka's who are outlawed and the Daamen's who are determined to save them. Action, betrayal, intrigue, lots of humor all combine to make this a one sitting read. So find a comfortable comer, have a beverage and enjoy. Thanks to Ms Verdenius for one of the best series in my library. Now onto Soul of a Mercenary, the next book in line.
There is so much teasing and jokes. I smiled so much my cheeks hurt. I also agree with anyone and everyone who commented that anyone who loved the firefly series will like this book. There are parallels not just the the type of story, but the humor that is throughout. I definitely want to read more by this author.
